I thank my God for every remembrance of you, always in every one of my prayers for all of you, praying with joy for your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. Philippians 1:3–5
Paul’s words to the faith community in Philippi mirror my own in this season of gratitude. Happy Thanksgiving! Please know how grateful I am for you, the saints of Flemington Presbyterian Church, and the ministry we do together! – Rev. Amy
A Thanksgiving Prayer by Caroline Garcia
Dear Lord,
We are in a season of thankfulness — surrounded by beautiful foliage, comforting meals and loved ones. We also have moments, days and months where thankfulness feels far away, across chasms of loss, separation and destruction.
No matter our posture in this season, we come together now to ground ourselves in truth:
You, our creator, are the same in the past, in the present and in the future.
Give us the strength to trust your sovereign plans. Comfort us with the knowledge that you will always meet us with the love we most need.
Almighty God, we offer you our gratitude:
We are grateful that you are Lord of the universe
with a perfect plan. We trust in the plans you have for us, plans to prosper and not harm, plans to give us a future with hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
We are grateful that you are our father,
who protects us with holy discipline, who is tender and compassionate, who knows what we need before we ask it (Matthew 6:4).
We are grateful for your Son,
who offers peace that surpasses all understanding, who guards our hearts and minds — even in uncertain and unsettling times (Philippians 4:6-7).
We are grateful for the Holy Spirit,
our advocate who helps us in our weakness, who intercedes for us, who is with us now (John 14:26; Romans 8:26).
We are grateful that you are our friend,
who loves us unconditionally, who doesn’t leave. You make us laugh, you’re a shoulder to lean on. In our weariness, you give us rest (Matthew 11:28).
Lord, we are grateful that throughout the chaos and instability in our lives
you are unwavering.
We are thankful that even when we fall short
your love is unconditional.
We lean on you-in thanksgiving, in mourning, in joy and in heaviness, always as your imperfect, beloved children. Amen.
